First post from Siliguri

Hello family and friends, I just finished my first full day here at the Joshi Mission. What a blessing the children are!! There were 83 children at the school today to hear me teach the Word of God and put on a program for me. I was the special and honored guest. Please check the gallery for a couple of the pictures. The pictures show the children eating a meal after the program and some teaching. I spoke to the older children (about 30-35) and they were very gracious and listened to me talk about the love of God. They were very intent on my words and I feel that it helped them understand God’s love just a little better. And I pray in Faith that the seed God planted will grow them in the Spirit. That is it for now, please check back in a couple of days for another post.

New Dehli

Just a quick post, I need to get some sleep. I made it to New Delhi and all I can say is “I’m not in Kansas anymore” as they say in the Wizard of Oz. The trip has left me very tired. Two 7 1/2 flights in a row takes a lot out of you. I will post more in a day or two. Hopefully with some pictures. :-)

I’m off

Well I am leaving in 45 minutes for the airport. I am nervous and excited at the same time. Time to really put my trust in the Lord, I know He is able.  The saying “This is where the rubber meets the road.” comes to mind. Time to go and do and share my faith with the lost in an unknown place. Watch for more posts in the coming days.

Just a few more days

Today is Good Friday and it is good for me to remember the love sacrifice Jesus made for me. He told us He had to leave this world so we could do greater things than Him. My friend Howie posted this verse on his web site today and it inspired me.  John 14:12  I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.(NIV) I used this translation because it uses the word faith. In the flesh, I cannot “see” myself this way, doing greater things. So I am stepping out in Faith, trusting in God’s word. Almost every physical thing around me says I cannot do greater things. But my heart says, Jesus said you can and will, so do.

I am a little concerned that I will not live up to what God expects of me, that I am not quite “good enough” to be His ambassador. But then I am reminded that none of us are worthy, and it is only by the blood of Jesus that I am saved by grace. And that the Word promises that if I step aside and let God work through me, He will arrive and bless people with His presence. Not by my strength but by the moving of the Holy Spirit.

I know many of you are praying for a safe trip for me, and I appreciate that. But most of all, pray I remain humble and sensitive to the Spirit of God, so through me He reaches lost and hurting souls in India. That I hear and obey His voice in all things to His glory. Safe is OK but over rated, but reaching the lost is awesome. I vote for awesome.

Ups and Downs

Well family and friends it has been a week of ups and downs for me. With God’s grace I worked through the downs. It seems like satan is doing what he can to disrupt me, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, it’s what he does. I am so happy that God has given us His authority over satan. Satan is a defeated foe, I am glad I have people around me that lift me up and remind me that satan is under my feet. Glory to God!!

God is also reminding me that the mission in India is His mission. I need to let go of trying to make things happen. And put everything in His hands and then watch it happen!! It is hard for us here in the USA, and probably other places as well, to let go and let God do the driving. When I was trying to  do things on my own it was like walking against a mean north wind in a blizzard. (OK maybe not bad.) When I turned around and let God take control it was like a summer day and going down river with the current. I sure prefer the going with the flow on a summer day to the blizzard!! I have stopped being concerned with the “how” and put it in God’s hands. I sleep better now. :-)

Talked with Isaac this week on the phone and received an email. He said that everyone there is looking forward to me coming. To quote Isaac, Every day you are in our prayers here, all the Church Members are very excited to see you, even the children’s. I am looking forward to meeting them all, but most of all the children. After all, it’s about the children having a better life. Helping them to get to know our God so they have His blessed promises and comfort in life. An education so they can learn and prosper in a difficult world. Someone told me that the Hindu have 100 Gods, I pray I can help them to know the one true God, Abba Father.

Glory to God, my Jehovah Jireh

Johovah Jireh, the Lord my Provider, when I posted earlier tonight I had no idea He would show me so soon how He provides. This evening, a brother and sister in Christ from the church gave abundantly above and beyond what I could hope. Their gift will build a large part of the orphanage in India. I was overwhelmed by the gift, and seeing God work to complete His plan. I see more everyday that we do serve an awesome God, not just a song we sing in church kind of God, but a real personal God moving in our lives. When I was young I wanted adventure and excitement so I joined the navy to see the world. And I saw some of the world, but the real adventure and excitement is serving God with a true heart and seeing Him move in peoples lives. I pray God uses me to bring His Word to others, so that they can know my God in a real personal way. God is so good, all the time!!

God knows our needs and provides

Whew, the shots are over and I am only a little sore today. God  is so good!! As I prepare for this trip to India I see His hand in even little things. He knew what I would need and when, and then has put provision in place for me at each step as I go. I have a meeting with Pastor Brad later this month, I know through the church, God will provide more for the trip. I am so happy because the less I need to spend for the trip, the more that I will be able to take for the orphanage building. It is similar to what Pastor Brad has been teaching on lately. I am helping to lay a cornerstone for the school, orphanage and church in India, so that many may come to know our Savior in a personal way.

Today I want to ask those of you that are reading this blog, and those that see it on Facebook to pray for me. Pray that I remain sensitive to His voice and obey Him in all things during this trip. That I keep my eyes on Him and not get my own ideas. That I do not put God into “my” box, but that I let Him move through me in His power, to His glory. And most of all Father God be lifted up through my obedience to His Word.

I put up a few more pictures today. You can look forward to more pictures from Joshi Mission, family and friends as I have the time to add them. That’s it for today, remember that Jesus is Lord.

Mission trip progress

Hello family and friends, I am a few steps closer to India tonight as I write this blog (www.aboutdanscott.com). Tomorrow is the day I dread the most, SHOTS, yuk. The shots are bad enough themselves but that I have to pay for pain, it just doesn’t seem right. Also insurance does not cover them, so it will be costly. But my God supplies, someone that knew of my trip gave me $500 (in cash), that should cover the doctor bill for shots tomorrow. It is such an awesome thing, knowing you are in God’s will. The Lord has been providing for me at every step. When I bought my ticket to India, it was a step of Faith, over $1400 worth. I trusted God to provide and reminded Him of His promise (the Word says that we should remind Him of His promises), and less than 10 days later, someone gave me a check for…. you guessed it $1400.  And Pathways (my church) has pledged books, bibles and material for the children at the school during this time. And they may be able to help me with other costs for the trip or possibly the orphanage building. Our God is so good!! If any of you would like to help me with the trip, or send money for the school and orphanage please email me and let me know so I can plan accordingly. I still need to pay for hotels, one night in New Delhi at the Radisson Hotel ($160) and 15 days in West Bengal ( about $525 but also includes car rental). I know the one night in New Delhi is expensive but it is right by the airport and New Delhi is the capital of India plus I have a 12 hour layover there. The stay there will allow my body to get in sync with the local time. We still need almost $2700 to complete the orphanage building but that also includes the land. See www.joshimission.com for pictures and the progress of the building campaign. Well that is all for tonight, check back soon for more about my adventure with God.

Mission Trip to India

Well, I have stepped out in faith and purchased the ticket to India. I leave April 5th and return April 23rd. I have passport and Visa should be here next week. But I still need to get a medical check-up and vaccinations (yuk).  I am still looking for donations for building the orphanage, so if you have some support money to spare, or feel lead by God to help, send it before I leave please.

During the trip I will post on this blog and post pictures so come back in April for updates.  I am looking forward to seeing God’s hand at work when I’m there. Please include me in your prayers, that I may be used by God in mighty ways!!
